Disabling enforced Microsoft Authenticator app, back to SMS code

It has been a while since Microsoft started enforcing the use of Microsoft Authenticator app as preferred authentication method than other common ones such as SMS code.

User experience with the Microsoft Authenticator app is not great and somewhat actually annoying that I have to Face ID twice everytime I entered a code. The text field to enter is small. I guess many little things become a big thing.

So, I started to look around and see if this can actually be restored to the normal way which is SMS to my phone. Lucky day that there is solution when quite often there is no simple solution from Microsoft.

Simply login to Microsoft Entra admin center, navigate to the Authentication Method, then select Registration campaign. Click on Edit, and change the State from Microsoft managed to Disabled, and Save.

That's it, life is back to normal good ol' days.
